Bridgewater Looked Pedestrian in Saints loss to Panthers

After the Saints announced Teddy Bridgewater would be making his first start since 2015, Saints fans were ready to see what Teddy B had to offer. Unfortunately, all the hype was for naught.

Bridgewater started the game looking pretty good, with his first pass as a Saint going to Mark Ingram for 16 yards and finishing the first drive 2 for 3 with 19 yards. On the next drive, he came out and completed a nice pass to Benjamin Watson, then proceeded to lead the Saints downfield, only to fail to convert on a 4th and 2. That was signs of more things to come, as Bridgewater really couldn’t get much going.

Bridgewater ultimately finished the game 14/22 for only 118 yards, throwing one touchdown and one interception. He also added 12 yards on the ground, which was surprising since he was once known for being a great runner. Bridgewater held the ball much too long. The interception he threw was to a triple-covered Ben Watson, leaving people wondering why he made the pass. There were multiple times Bridgewater hesitated on throwing to an open receiver, leading to a sack or a scramble out of bounds. A couple times, he looked downfield for a big play when the check-down pass was wide open for a decent gain.

Whether it was lack of preparation, a few nerves, or just simply making wrong reads, Bridgewater did not look ready for the stage he stepped on to. Hopefully, Bridgewater can shake off this performance and be available anytime he is needed, whether it be for the Saints or anyone else.
